研究小組還對(duì)過(guò)去報(bào)告的開(kāi)角型青光眼相關(guān)的7種特征進(jìn)行了遺傳學(xué)評(píng)價(jià)，發(fā)現(xiàn)開(kāi)角型青光眼與Ⅱ型糖尿病和心肌梗塞、缺血性中風(fēng)等心血管疾病有共同的遺傳背景，這意味著有些人生來(lái)易患此病。他們將進(jìn)一步研究全身狀態(tài)和青光眼的關(guān)系，期望為預(yù)防醫(yī)學(xué)作出貢獻(xiàn)。
